Provo River Fly Fishing Report – Winter – Midge Hatch

Power Provo (Below Deer Creek)

_MG_4581 copy 2HAPPY NEW YEAR! There’s not  many places in Utah during the Winter that are as beautiful and peaceful as the Provo River. With snow lining the rivers edge and bald eagles flying over head, you have to get out and fish. Water flows on the lower Provo River are 99-CFS making for easy wading and gin clear water. Recently we’ve been fishing nymphs but have seen great  “midge” hatches that are bring quality fish to the surface looking for the dry. Fish seem to be gathering into deep slower moving runs for the majority but we have caught some fast fish in the faster water too. With temperatures rising this week I anticipate the dry fly fishing between the hours of 12:00 (noon) and 3:30 p.m. to be good. Lighter tippets and smaller flies seem to be the ticket. Please always respect other anglers and land owners. See you on the water soon. WASATCH GUIDE SERVICE
