Provo River Fishing Report – Winter Midge

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Lower Provo (Below Deer Creek)

Winter is here and the temps have been cold.  The most productive time to be on the water right now is from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30hero brown p.m.  During the hrs from 12:00 (noon) to 3:00 p.m we’ve seen a good amount of fish looking up to eat midge on the surface.  Typically we are finding the rising fish in back eddies, but don’t be fooled they are rising in the faster water too.  Nymph fishing has been the most productive across the board.  Majority of fish are stacked up in slower deep runs and eating small midge and sow bugs.  Water clarity it great and flows are low.  Please be mindful of other anglers and landowners and be safe.  See you on the river.

Streamflow:: 100 – CFS

Primary Hatch: Midge (Size #22 – #18)  Black, Grey, Olive, Red
