Lower Provo (Below Deer Creek)

Winter Fishing on the Provo River is in full swing, so make sure to dress accordingly.  The Brown Trout have now started to move off the spawning Redd’s and are now settling into their winter runs.  The Rainbow Trout are very eager to eat Sow Bugs and other small midge patterns, so come out and enjoying catching these hot fish.  Please keep your eyes open to spawning Redd’s as you are wading to fish different runs.  Please respect other anglers and property owners.  See you on the water.

Streamflow: 98 CFS

Primary Hatch: Midges (#18 – #24) Sow Bugs (#16 – #20) JuJu Baetis (#22 – #16) Zebra Midge (#22 – #16)

Best Techniques: Trout are settling into the main channels and inside seams.  If you are running the bounce rig, always remember to be committed with your weight.  If your not bouncing your not fishing the rig effectively.  Look for nervous and soft water.  Get good drifts and make sure to mend your line.  Hint: Dip rod tip in water to help get rid of iced eyelets.

Best Flies: BWO Barr Emergers (18-20), Zebra Midge (16-24), Sow Bugs (18-22), Disco Midge (18-20) JuJu Baetis (18-16)
