Middle Provo (Jordanelle to Deer Creek)

The GREEN DRAKES are out in full force on the middle Provo.  The annual GD hatch that comes off every year around this same time is a hatch you don’t want to miss.  The Bug is BIG and the fish that eat the Drake are BIG as well.  It’s one of the more easy hatches to fish because on average the flies are around a size 8.  You can see the trout eat your flies a mile away.  Fishing PMD’sand Caddis on the Middle have been fun and producing quality fish.  Fish all types of water.  See you out there.

Stream flow: 508 CFS

Primary Hatches: GREEN DRAKE Adults (#6 – #10) PMD’s (#18 – #20) Cased Caddis (#8 – #16) Green Drake Nymph (#8 – #14) Golden Stones (Big and Small) SOW bug (#20 – #16)

Best Techniques:  Dry Fly Fishing the DRAKE is the ticket.  Fish are holding in deeper slower runs and back eddies.  If you can find and fish in soft water you will catch fish.  Make sure your getting good drifts and let your bugs swing.  You do those two things and you’ll have good success.

Best Flies:  GREEN DRAKE Adult (#6 – #10) PMD Emeregers (#18 – #20) Zebra Midges (#16- #24), Disco Midges (#18- #22), RS2 (#18-#20) Brown Worm (16) Case Caddis (# 14 – # 18) Caddis Pupa (# 20 – #16) Parachute Adams (#20 – #16) Olive Elk Hair Caddis (#20 – #16) Green Drake Nymphs (#8 – #14)
